When and where was Guru Nanak Dev born?
Guru Nanak Dev ji was born on 1469 AD to Kartik Purnima, who was the first Guru of the Sikhs. He was born in Talwandi, Raikpur, Pakistan, in present-day Nankana Saheb, Punjab, Pakistan. Guru Nanak Dev ji was a great siddha man, religious reformer, thinker, poet and writer, who illuminated the world with his knowledge through his ideas.
About Guru Nanak Dev Ji's family, parents, wife and marriage: -
Guru Nanak Dev Ji was born in a Hindu family on the banks of the Ravi River. Father's name was Lala Kalyan Rai ji aka Mehta Kalu ji and his mother's name was Tripti Devi. When Guru Nanak Dev Ji was only 16 years of age, he got married to Sulkhani Devi. Who had two sons, Shri Chand and Lakhmichand.
Religious visit and preaching of Guru Ji: -
After getting married and having 2 sons, Guru Nanak Dev Ji went out on a pilgrimage with his four companions and enlightened the people with his thoughts, by 1521 he completed three cycles of his journey. In which he traveled to many countries including India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and people joined them and went on to adopt Sikhism. Ibrahim Lodi at one time arrested them and got them put in jail. After which the battle of Panipat took place and Babur became the ruler of India and Guru Sahab was released.
Death and successor of Guru Nanak Dev Ji: -
Guru Nanak Dev ji was a poet of the Bhakti era, and the hymns and songs which were sung in the devotion of God have been stored in one place. Bhai Lahna, a disciple of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, succeeded him who later became famous as Guru Angad Dev Ji. Guru Nanak Dev ji died on 22 September 1539 in Kartarpur, whose memorial is built in Kartarpur.
