Mahatma Gautam Buddha 

 Why and when is Buddha Purnima celebrated?  -

 Buddha Purnima is celebrated every year on the full moon day of Baishakh month. Because on this day i.e. on the full moon day of Baisakh month, Mahatma Gautama Buddha was born and it is a matter of fact that he died on this day in the same month.  He was born in Lumbini in 563 BC. Therefore, followers of Buddhism celebrate Buddha Purnima on this day either by reaching here or at the Buddhist pilgrimage site. Not only this, people also worship Dhan Lakshmi on this day.

Birth, birthplace, parents and wife of Gautam Buddha :-

Lumbini was born in Mahatma Buddha in present day Nepal country.  Buddha was the son of a king of a Shakya dynasty.  His father's name was Maharaja Suddhodhana and mother Maharani was Mahamaya.  The childhood name of Gautam Buddha was Siddhartha. His mother died seven days after his birth.  After the death of his mother, his mother's sister-in-law, that is, aunt Gautami, brought him up.  Since Buddha was the son of Shakya Banshi Raja, he is also called Shakya Muni.  He died at the age of 83 on the full moon day of Baishakh month in 483 BC in Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh (India).

Education and change of heart (renunciation) / journey from Siddhartha to Buddha -

 Buddha was born in Shakya dynasty in Lumbini near Kapilavastu, the capital of 563 AD Isha Purva Shakya Republic. Today it is in Nepal. On the fifth day of birth, King Suddhodhana invited five learned Brahmins to name his son and the child.  Asked to tell about the future. Siddhartha's name became Buddha after attaining knowledge. Buddha means the person who has attained the truth.  In Buddhist scriptures, attaining enlightenment of Buddha is called Nirvan.  What Buddha did after attaining enlightenment - After attaining enlightenment, Buddha gave his first sermon at Sarnath near Varanasi.  Due to this, five yogis accepted him as their Guru, thus Gautama Buddha established Buddhism.  Gradually people started getting influenced by them, converted to Buddhism and started converting.  Buddha preached religion not only to the country but to abroad.  People from abroad also embraced Buddhism. Now the followers of Buddhism are in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, China, Japan, Bhutan and other countries.  Some kings also adopted Buddhism such as King Prashanjit of Kaushal state and Bimbisara, Ajatshatru and King Udayan of Magadha.
Buddha's favorite student was Anand, whom Buddha also considered his friend.  The most educated of Buddha's disciples were Kashyapa and humble and learned disciples Upali and Yash etc.  His horse's name was Gandhak.

 Buddha's death and final teachings, place of death -

He gave up his body in Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, 483 BC at the age of 83. The great king Emperor Ashoka also adopted his path of peace and Buddhism.  Buddha gave his last sermon to Subhadra, the founder of a religion and to his disciple Anand.  In the end, he said to give up his body.  In the Buddhist text, the death of a Buddhist is called Mahaparinirvan.  By the time Buddha was alive there was only one sect in Buddhism, but later on differences of ascetics led to two sects 1. Hinayana and 2. Mahayana
